AZ Awards 2022 Finalist: Loft A by Arrova | Atelier Rojo-Vergara

For Loft A, a 226-square-metre abode in Pamplona, Spain, local architect Enrique Rojo took inspiration from legendary Swiss theatre designer Adolphe Appia, celebrated for his tiered sets with multiple planes. The loft, built inside an old motorbike repair shop, has a wide floor plan broken up by both concrete pillars and an open basement, which is capped with a floating podium that hovers a few feet above floor level. The effect, like Appia’s best work, is both theatrical and minimalistic. The entire home is a stage — although not a flat one — for an ongoing domestic story.
