A warehouse for a machinery-rental business in Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture, Chitose Techno Park sits beneath a series of rectangular skylights that illuminate the interiors with evenly distributed light. This architectural feature is also a visual motif. The parking bays for the vehicles, the numbers on the garage doors, the signs denoting offices and meeting rooms — all are painted with rectangular graphics that gesture, in their simplicity and elegance, to the windows above. The colour palette for the graphics is minimalist but striking: bold red and rich blue, both taken from the logos of the two companies that operate the space.
