This ambitious concept focuses on transforming two Toronto neighbourhoods into “transit-oriented communities” featuring educational and research facilities, industrial zones, housing, commercial spaces and a wide array of green spaces. Designed with carbon reduction goals and environmental concerns top of mind, these communities would turn the under-utilized areas around transit stations into models for future urban growth, complete with shared gardens, solar arrays, rainwater retention ponds and outdoor amphitheatres. In addition to their proximity to public transit, mass timber construction would further reduce the overall carbon footprint.
