Soccer is a game of geometry where players advance in triangular formations across a rectangular pitch. Academia Atlas (the new home of Atlas F.C., one of Mexico’s oldest football clubs) is a study in geometric rigour. Surrounded by soccer fields, the central building is a series of modular rectangles. Some have indoor amenities; others sit open beneath a brise-soleil roof. But the voids can be filled in later, as the community’s needs change. The entire structure, designed by architecture studio Sordo Madaleno, is made of dusty pigmented concrete and ruddy brickwork, evoking the nearby Sierra Madre Occidental.
