The newest version of Arper’s popular Catifa 53 earns extra points for sustainability thanks to a seat and back made of PaperShell, a 100 per cent bio-based and circular material derived from forestry waste. Using 29 layers of kraft paper bonded together with natural bio-resin, the form is steam-pressed, moulded and trimmed before being paired with one of four varieties of powder-coated steel legs. In addition to sequestering nearly two kilos of CO2 per chair, each Catifa Carta can be sent back to Arper at the end of its life, where it will be turned into biochar, an eco-friendly fertilizer.
