Clinique Monkland, an orthodontic clinic in southwest Montreal, offers an alternative to the cold, sterile look of most dental offices with its palette of natural wood, plush upholstery and precise millwork. The designers made efficient use of the narrow floor plan and the century-old building’s original details, styling the reception area as a living room complete with a brick fireplace, green velvet–upholstered seating and a fluted walnut reception desk. Treatment rooms are similarly outfitted with fluted glass dividers, walnut accents and a ceiling covered by an intricate grid of white oak joinery that conceals the necessary electromechanical and dental equipment overhead.
