Abandoned lobster traps are a common sight on beaches along the Atlantic Coast, and a major source of ocean-bound pollution. This colourful collection of tables, seating, shelving and mirrors — each made from fishing gear recovered from beaches along the Maine coast — gives new life to these materials while inviting a conversation about the culture of disposability that permeates the modern world. Designer Lauren Goodman sources the materials herself, creating each piece by hand in her Montreal studio through a labour-intensive process of deconstruction, sandblasting, welding and powder-coating, and the result is that no two are exactly alike.
