The best thing about the Hill Country Wine Cave in southeastern Texas is that it’s sited in an actual cave. Before designing the structure, the architects at Clayton Korte captured a 3D scan of the cavern. They then custom-designed the architectural volume as an insert that could easily slide into the cave, like a ship into a bottle. Wood and concrete finishes imbue the space with warmth, but there’s plenty of exposed limestone, too — a reminder that this was a collaborative design effort in which nature was enlisted as a participant.
