Among the most notable features of a Japanese kimono is the broad sash, called an obi, that’s cut from a fabric that contrasts with the rest of the garment. This ancient design is both namesake and muse for Expormim’s modular outdoor sofa, which uses a wide, contrasting elastic band to support the backrest and arms in a similar fashion. Instead of silk, the band is made from waterproof textile or leather, but it nonetheless provides an impactful complement to the upholstery and injection-moulded aluminum frame.
