Pearl Jam — an installation by Nicole Nomsa Moyo and her studio, Good Urban Design, at the Miami Design District — is a celebration of the vibrant, intricate beadwork practices of the Ndebele people of Zimbabwe and South Africa. The installation features handmade baubles (the work of roughly 100 Ndebele artisans) suspended from trees, as well as enlarged fibreglass beads, which are threaded together to form a massive necklace that snakes through the district. There’s also an oversized and colourfully decorated fibreglass bracelet, which doubles as a bench — a perfect place to sit and admire the biomorphic weirdness of Buckminster Fuller’s nearby Fly’s Eye Dome, a beloved local landmark.
