Hovering above Australia’s Sydney Harbour, the 200-metre-long, 2,500-tonne floating roof of the new Sydney Fish Market appears to undulate like an ocean wave, its 407 roof cassettes (not unlike a fish’s reflective scales) diffusing sunlight into the spaces below. Beneath it, the plaza functions as both a working industrial fish market, complete with auction hall and logistics centre, and a retail mall with 12,000 square metres of restaurants, fishmongers and specialty vendors. Gently raised stairs and terraces ring the building, doubling as seating and dining perches with an expansive view of the harbour.
