At the core of Toronto’s Indigenous Hub, the Anishnawbe Health Centre is a striking building characterized by its exterior expression: the “Fancy Dancer Shawl” of steel fringes that sway in the wind and the perforated aluminum panels that reveal traditional Indigenous textile patterns. From the street, one can see all the way through to the heart of the building. The Indigenous People’s Garden is a living landscape of native trees and traditional medicinal plants with vital gathering spaces: the Ceremonial Space, the Lobby Courtyard, the Grandmother Teaching Circle, the Grandfather Teaching Seats (a meandering walk and bioswale), the Medicine Wheel Circle and two terraces.
