Eighteen storeys of undulating, angled balconies announce Aqualuna from afar. Its terraces vary in depth and width, simultaneously evoking Lake Ontario’s waves and modular 1960s Scandinavian design. The high-rise condominium complex is the latest in Toronto’s newly developed Bayside waterfront neighbourhood, and is the work of Danish firm 3XN, which drew on the communal nature of courtyard apartments in Copenhagen for inspiration. A shared space at the base of both towers brings residents together with a pool and social rooms, acting as a “central valley” with a view corridor to the lake. Below, a promenade at grade invites visitors to partake in the convivial spirit with restaurants, retail and a multipurpose space.
