When reinforced concrete displaced stone as the dominant structural material in the early 20th century, it didn’t just change how buildings were built — it erased centuries of accumulated craft knowledge. This architecture thesis reclaims some of that ground, developing a system of structural stone assemblies (columns, beams, walls, arches, vaults) built from offcuts, irregular shapes and industry-rejected material. Working with locally sourced Algonquin limestone, Kingston orange sandstone and Belmont rose granite, the project proves that what the stone industry discards can, with the right technique, bear weight.
