The history of this gated green space dates back to the 17th century, when a bridge that still stands today served as a symbol of the region’s economic prosperity. After it was abandoned and taken over by drug cartels, the park was reclaimed by the city of Salvatierra, which brought in regional firm 3ME Arquitectura to enhance the landscape. The architects employed repatriated local migrant workers to reinforce a crumbling ruin, now the park entrance, and reactivate old orchards. Using recycled materials from the site itself, the team installed wood and stone pavilions and created three graduated platforms of open space for community activities, returning Eco Parque Batanes to its former glory.
