Following a comprehensive renovation of Oslo’s century-old Naturhistorisk museum, a new lighting scheme was required to illuminate 4.5 billion years of natural history across 2,300 square metres of exhibition space, including a full T. rex skeleton. Track systems are the backbone of the design, which can accommodate a variety of heads aimed to highlight the textures and colours of the museum’s collection. In one section, hidden light tiles were built into exhibition tables to illuminate the delicate bones of early mammals. In another, designers researched UV light parameters and used carefully hidden equipment to reveal a psychedelic spectrum of colours in a display of fluorescent minerals.
