Medical clinics have long been defined by cold surfaces and flat, unmodulated light. Two doctors, captivated by Atelier Carle’s residential interiors on Instagram, commissioned the Montreal firm to reimagine their practice entirely. At the heart of the 700-square-metre Oakville, Ontario, medical clinic, a soaring double-height volume is crowned by a waffle ceiling diffusing diaphanous light across the entire floor plate. Walnut cladding, which is naturally antibacterial and richly grained, suffuses the space with warmth. Stainless steel captures and reflects that warmth across scales from surgical instruments to product displays, sage ceramic surfaces soften the clinical edge, and corridors bathed in muted light ease the journey from café and cosmetics boutique to treatment rooms. Here, healing unfolds in beauty.
