Recess is Montreal’s first social thermal station organized as a 75-minute circuit of alternating heat, cold and rest. At its centre, a custom 50-person circular sauna forms a sculptural gathering space where three tiers of stepped oak benches establish distinct heat zones around a cylindrical stone heating drum beneath a glowing oculus. A sequence of calibrated environments unfolds from a bright Aesop-partnered reception area through a dappled tunnel into golden warmth, then to a cavernous plunge pool rendered in cool blue tones and shaped as an excavated grotto. A curtained lounge completes the circuit. Materiality, light and scent articulate a sensory narrative of contrast, rhythm and collective renewal.
