Perhaps as impressive as the Meishajian Viewing Platform — located 753 metres above sea level atop Shenzhen’s third-highest peak — is what it took to build it there: manual delivery, drones, mule teams and a temporary cable system to haul materials up the steep mountainside without vehicle access. Once at the summit, whipping winds compromised work on an already-small footprint that was challenged by an old remnant foundation. The effort was well worth it: Cast-in-place concrete now extends the existing rock outward, sinking into the mountain to form a covered in-ground rest area. Above it, a vaulted platform textured to echo local stone formations carries hikers higher than the clouds for 360-degree views.
