A ceramics kiln and a Pilates studio might seem like an unlikely pairing, but ONO makes the combination feel inevitable with Two-Fold Studio. Tucked behind a 1912 Fairfax home, this compact multi-functional garden pavilion transforms an unused suburban backyard into a sheltered, landscape-driven retreat backed by a weathered basalt wall. A wood-slatted folding door divides the ceramics studio with kiln and kitchenette from the adjacent Pilates studio. The sloping shed roof extends over a low wooden deck, carving out a third space underfoot. Inside, zinc countertops and plaster walls will patina gracefully over time, and clerestory windows draw in treetop light while preserving privacy. Yellow powder-coated aluminum adds a precise note of contemporary contrast within a timeless composition.
